Karnataka Health Promotion Trust (KHPT) was set up as a partnership between Karnataka State AIDS prevention Society (KSAPS) and the University of Manitoba, Canada in the year 2003. KHPT focuses on supporting and implementing initiatives related to HIV/ AIDS and reproductive health. It works towards reducing the risk and vulnerability to HIV among high risk groups, generating awareness on HIV AIDS and other health issues among general population and improving the availability and access to treatment, care and support services. Spruha : Under the NACP-III, 350 Community Care Centres (CCC) are planned to be set up during the programme period (2007- 2012) all over India, in high and moderate prevalence districts. These centres will be established based on the epidemiological profile and PLHIV load in the districts and linked to the nearest ART centre. Karnataka Health Promotion Trust has been selected as sub-recipient to NACO under the GFATM Round VI to establish CCC in the states of Karnataka and Maharashtra. The project will establish 77 CCC across Maharashtra (40) and Karnataka (37). The KHPT- GFATM VI CCC project has been named as SPRUHA. The word means a strong will or desire which reflects the commitment of the project to improve the quality of life of our friends living with HIV. The goal of the project is to increase access to better quality of life and reduce vulnerability of people living with HIV (PLHIV) through improved clinical and care services, linkages to relevant social services and community responses. A CCC is envisaged as a home away from home for PLHIV. It serves as a place where: Newly diagnosed PLHIV can receive support and come to terms with their diagnosis. PLHIV can receive counselling on a wide range of issues including nutrition, positive prevention, drug adherence, etc. PLHIV on ART initiation could spend time to learn more about the ART drugs, the dosages, the importance of drug adherence, common side effects of the medications and adverse drug reactions which need immediate medical attention. PLHIV can come regularly for health checkups as well for management of opportunistic infections. The CCC team comprises of a Project Coordinator, Doctors, Nurses, Counsellor & Out reach workers. This team provides the range of medical & psychosocial services either directly or through strong linkages with relevant indentified service providers. Through its strong linkages with the ART centre, ICTC, DOTS, Targeted Intervention programs, Tertiary level hospitals for severe OI management, orphanages, destitute homes, vocational rehabilitations centres, legal support centres, it aims to be a central hub in the care and support program. code pour embarquer la vidéo : >>> http://www.youtube.com/embed/xG-UyFIe1xA <<< |
