This demonstration by Vladimir "Vlado" Koylazov shows the potential gains from a GPU accelerated advanced raytrace/GI renderer. This demo uses a $300 nVidia gamer card. Using the new open source OpenCL software, certain calls from the software can be accelerated by having the GPU on the video card do the calculation. In this example a medium quality computer renders 20x faster via GPU. The CPU is mostly sending and receiving and is operating at less than 100%.
