diGIT online IT magazine - September Editorial by Gihan FernandoEditorial September 2009 Ayubowan, welcome to the eight issue of the online IT magazine diGIT. Let me start the editorial by welcoming four new contributors to the diGIT team. They are: Pravin, Sameera, Udaya and Upake. Do check their profile to read more info on their interests and background. September is considered the literacy month in Sri Lanka. So its a special time for diGIT as well, as we will be releasing the first CD of diGIT. The CD will be out from the 19th of this month and will be promoted at the Colombo book fair at BMICH. Do get your hands on this CD and spread the word about the magazine. This months issue also includes an article on a fun venture started out by three individuals in the IT field. Geekrulz is a site which offers tshirts with an IT flavor added in. There are a number of fun tshirts that any IT person would be proud to wear. My favourite one is Theres no place like home. You can see many other designs by visiting geekrulz.com. Asela enlightens us with the new Internet Protocol version 6 and tells us why it is needed. Its is worth noting that IPv4 allows us 2 to the power 32 ( 4,294,967,296) addresses where are IPv6 allows us 2 to the power 128 (340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456) addresses. That is a significant improvement. Do check his article for more details. This month, we have an interesting book called Twitterville which I reviewed. I believe almost everyone knows about Twitter. Shel Israel a social media write gives us stories from Twitterville, and how we can earn trust, make friends and do business in the worlds biggest small town. Do check the review and if interested, you can order from Amazon. The book is out from the 3rd of this month. Among other special hightlights from this months issue is the trip taken by Isuru and his colleague Hiranya. Isuru and his team submitted a paper to the T4E (Technology for education) international paper. The paper was based on a project named QuizFun. QuizFun is a mobile based quiz game focused on improving learning. Do take a look and see if it opens your eye for creating more products like that which will help in education. Lets focus our attention on a few contributors of digit so that you would be aware of the skillset that is present behind the diGIT team.
