MUNROS: STOB BAN (GREY CORRIES)The Grey Corries is a long chain of mountains that lie to the east of the Nevis Range. They can be sighted above the Great Glen Way from the atmospheric and commanding viewpoint that is the Commando Memorial near Spean Bridge, their summits identifiable in sunlight by the shiny quartzite scree that gives the mountains their name. Corriechoille is the usual starting point for the commencement of at least three of the four Munros therein and is accessed via the narrow road from Spean Bridge on the south side of the River Spean. There is limited parking close to the river by Cour Bridge. However, it is also possible to drive up the private road past Corriechoille Lodge passing beyond the gate on the road (and hoping that its not locked upon your return!) and continuing along the track to the obvious rough car-parking area from where the old railway path can be picked up or better still -used for the return. So, from there its best to head up the track, which is part of the ancient right of way that is the Lairig Leacach. On our first visit we headed up to the bothy simply to do the 'White Peak' Stob Ban [WHICH IS THIS VIDEO] returning on our second occasion for Stob Choire Claurigh and Stob an Laoigh. Our return visit [SEE OTHER VIDEOS] was a spectacular ciruclar walk from the Lairig returning via the remains of the old narrow gauge railway that dates from the construction of the old aluminium works tunnel which linked Fort William to the secretive Loch Treig. The 'Big Peak of the Moss' Sgurr Choinnich Mor can be added into this round or (as shown in this video) can be ascended from the other side via Glen Nevis and Nevis Gorge.
