Election Canada Marc Mayrand, Chief Electoral OfficeLa nomination de Marc Mayrand au poste de directeur général des élections du Canada a été approuvée à l'unanimité par la Chambre des communes le 21 février 2007. Il est ainsi devenu la sixième personne à occuper ce poste depuis sa création en 1920. Avant de diriger Élections Canada, M. Mayrand a exercé les fonctions de surintendant des faillites depuis mai 1997. Entré au Bureau du surintendant des faillites en 1982, il y a occupé des postes de portée et de responsabilité croissantes, y compris celui de surintendant associé, Programmes, normes et affaires réglementaires, et de surintendant associé, Opérations. Avant de se joindre à la fonction publique fédérale et au Bureau du surintendant des faillites, M. Mayrand était professeur à temps plein à la Section de droit civil de l'Université d'Ottawa, où il enseignait la loi en matière d'insolvabilité, le droit des sociétés et le droit commercial, ainsi que le droit public et administratif. M. Mayrand est titulaire d'un baccalauréat en droit de l'Université d'Ottawa et d'une maîtrise en droit de la London School of Economics and Political Science. Il est membre du barreau du Québec depuis 1977. Before heading Elections Canada, Mr. Mayrand had served as Superintendent of Bankruptcy since May 1997. After joining the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy in 1982, he held a variety of positions of increasing scope and responsibility, including Deputy Superintendent, Programs, Standards and Regulatory Affairs and Deputy Superintendent, Operations. Before joining the federal public service and the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy, Mr. Mayrand was a full-time professor at the University of Ottawa, Civil Law Section, where he taught Insolvency, Corporate/Commercial Law, and Public and Administrative Law. Mr. Mayrand holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from the University of Ottawa and a Master's in Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
