Canada's First Certified Google Earth 3D DeveloperNANAIMO - A Nanaimo woman is making it big in the construction industry - but you won't see her buildings among the others that line the Harbour city's streets. Judith Chinn is a major player in the virtual development world as a designer for Google Earth. She's the first person in Canada - certified by Google - to take part of the groundbreaking project. - Canada's first Google certified, geo 3d developer. So - what is a Google certified, geo 3d developer? If you've looked at Google Earth lately - and zoomed into Nanaimo. You've probably seen her work. Chinn builds 3d models of buildings and structures that are overlaid into Google earth. She built the aquatic centre, the ice centre and the bastion street bridge. Chinn charges between 150 and 1000 dollars per building - depending how intricate the work is. A few years ago, Nanaimo was given the title of "Google Earth's Capital of the World" - and if you've looked lately, you'll have noticed the satellite imagery for Nanaimo has been updated. And so has the terrain elevation. The technology is not just for entertainment or promotion. In the aftermath of New Zealand's devastating earthquake in Christchurch two weeks ago, Google earth with it's 3d modeled buildings has proven to be a valuable tool.
